Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to receive routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and timestamps
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Pages opened and approximate time spent on them
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that activity into broader usage reports. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the selected outside provider
- Diagnose errors and other technical faults
- Maintain reliable, responsive site operation
- Measure which pages serve visitors well
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
No database of personal criminal records is maintained, compiled, or sold here. The site publishes general directions to Summers County offices, court clerks, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Records Section, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is never assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal file.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern information submitted to them. Each provider determines its retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links to sheriff pages, courts, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, and search providers lead away from this website. The destination's privacy rules apply after the link opens and should be read before personal information is submitted.
Advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That cross-site process occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be shared with:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query you choose to submit
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, customary safeguards protect collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and the site cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor's information has been submitted, contact us so it can be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary by residence and applicable law. West Virginia consumer protections appear in W. Va. Code Chapter 46A; public-record access is governed separately by the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., and WVSP criminal-history dissemination by §15-2-24(d). Subject to the law that applies, you may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask what personal information is held about you
- Object to certain processing where law provides that choice
- Seek deletion when an applicable law requires it
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version becomes available here with its new effective date.
